The German cemetery in Lenauheim was in good shape and again we enlisted the help of locals…one who said the name Grigolo sounded familiar and he thought they emigrated long ago. My great-great Grandfather, Josef Grigolo was born in Lenauheim around 1862-64. I found some tombstones with the name “Groglott,” which made me wonder if that was the original German variant of the name before being changed it to a more Hungarian/Romanian one. There was a picture on one of the Groglott stones that looked a lot like my grandfather when he was young.
We found the family who had the church keys and they opened the church for us! though everything there is crumbling, the inside of the church was immaculate! Upon entering, my guide Cornelius said…”the work of your ancestors.” ….I got goose bumps! [Kyle]
